About Regenpreneur
Regenpreneur is a New Zealand-based organisation that empowers individuals and communities to design sustainable, regenerative futures. We combine ecological design principles with emerging technologies to create education programmes, research initiatives, and practical tools that support environmental health, social well-being, and long-term resilience.
What We Do: Our programmes focus on applying regenerative design across agriculture, community development, and technology. Our core initiatives include the Regenerative Farming Blueprint for sustainable land management and the Kōkiri AI Programme for fostering innovation and entrepreneurial thinking among young learners. We deliver accessible online education, develop physical and digital learning environments, and support learners in using AI and other technologies to solve real-world challenges. Our work aligns with New Zealand’s environmental and sustainability frameworks, including the Resource Management Act and the Emissions Reduction Plan.
Aims: We aim to inspire and support the widespread adoption of regenerative practices that improve ecological health, strengthen community resilience, and drive sustainable economic growth. By integrating business strategy, environmental stewardship, and technological innovation, we help individuals and organisations design systems that are regenerative, future-focused, and adaptable to change. Our programmes enable learners and practitioners to meet regulatory requirements, respond to market demands, and contribute positively to their environments.
Track Record: For over 10 years, Regenpreneur has delivered successful education programmes, including our Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC), supporting hundreds of learners across New Zealand. Graduates have applied regenerative principles to farms, businesses, and community projects, reporting improved resilience, reduced resource inputs, and new opportunities for sustainable growth. Our latest initiatives, such as the Kōkiri AI Lab, expand our impact by equipping young people with the skills needed for creative problem-solving and innovation in a rapidly changing world.
Governance: Led by Richard Pedley, an experienced educator and specialist in regenerative systems design, Regenpreneur operates with strong governance structures to ensure that our activities are research-driven, future-focused, and aligned with New Zealand’s environmental goals. We collaborate with a network of farmers, educators, scientists, and technology developers to create impactful programmes that meet real-world needs and support the transition to a regenerative, resilient future.

Founder – Richard Pedley
Regenpreneur was founded by Richard Pedley, an educator, researcher, and regenerative systems designer with over two decades of experience working at the intersection of ecology, education, and innovation.
Richard’s work is grounded in a long-standing interest in how living systems function — from soils and pastures to learning environments and communities — and how thoughtful design can support long-term resilience in a rapidly changing world.
With formal training in ecology, plant sciences, and education, Richard has worked across schools, tertiary institutions, farms, and community settings in Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia. His career spans classroom teaching, university-based online learning design, agricultural research, and the development of regenerative education programmes that connect theory with real-world application.
At the heart of Regenpreneur is Richard’s commitment to systems-based learning — helping people learn how to observe, think critically, and design responses that are ecologically sound, socially grounded, and future-ready.
Research and applied practice
Richard’s academic work reflects a practical, evidence-informed approach to regenerative systems.
His Master of Philosophy (Ecology) research examined the effects of grazing strategies on soil health in New Zealand pastoral systems, including the use of biological indicators alongside measures of soil structure, carbon, biodiversity, and pasture dynamics. The research highlighted the complexity of ecological systems and the importance of using multiple indicators — and long-term perspectives — when assessing regenerative practices.
Through the Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme, Richard further explored how regenerative design, business strategy, and sustainability legislation can be integrated into practical farm planning. His work on the Regenerative Farming Blueprint focused on supporting farmers to meet environmental requirements while designing systems that are viable, adaptive, and aligned with their values and context.
These research threads continue to inform Regenpreneur’s approach: grounded in science, cautious of oversimplification, and focused on building practical capability rather than promoting one-size-fits-all solutions.
